When David first began his journey with Connections to Success, he faced challenges on multiple fronts. Upon release from prison, he lacked much-needed job skills, struggled with parenting, and had trouble maintaining consistent employment and transportation. Stability felt out of reach – and the path forward wasn’t clear.
What first drew him in? Something simple, but powerful.
“The name stuck with me,” David shares. “I wanted to be connected to success. I wanted something that could offer me a better way of living and thinking.”
Through the Connections to Success programs, David began to rebuild – not just his career path, but also his confidence. He developed improved communication skills, even stepping into public speaking, where he began to recognize his own potential in a new way. Equally important, he discovered a community of people who genuinely cared about his success and were committed to walking alongside him as he worked toward it.
Now, eight years after returning home, David has built a stable and meaningful career as a carpenter. He completed his apprenticeship, became a journeyman, and continues to invest in his growth through advanced training at the international training center. His dedication has also led to leadership roles within his union, where he now serves as a trustee and delegate.
Beyond his career, David has built a strong foundation for his family. He is a father of four, having welcomed another child and reunited with his high school sweetheart, whom he later married. He is giving back to his community in new ways, recently stepping into a role as a volunteer T-ball coach, something he loves doing.
“It’s always been a passion of mine to be a coach, to give back anything I have and to keep people connected to success,” David said.
David’s journey is a powerful reminder that success is not a single moment, but a series of steps that require commitment, support, and belief. Today, he is not only building a future for himself and his family, but also helping others stay “strongly connected” to success.
