Growing up in poverty and entering prison at age 17, Joseph faced a 25-year sentence and an uncertain future. Shortly before his release, he enrolled in a personal and professional development training being offered by Connections to Success. He was eager to learn and determined never to return to the life he had known. Little did he know that this decision would be the turning point in his life.
Just days before Christmas, Joseph was released to Kansas City, where he continued to lean on the Connections to Success team for support. Reentry came with challenges: learning new routines, navigating housing, and searching for employment. Eventually he found a place to live, secured a job, and connected with one of our mentors, who quickly became like family to him. Even after experiencing a layoff due to restaurant closures during Covid, Joseph refused to give up. He found a new job at a recycling and composting plant, and there he not only earned a promotion to crew lead, he also discovered his passion for mentoring others.
Today, Joseph is an inspiration to his entire community, sharing his story and telling others that with hope, resources, and a plan, they too can build a brighter future.
