Child Support Awareness Month – MO Resources
Last week as part of National Child Support Awareness Month, we talked about the impact child support plays in the lives of the families we work with at Connections to Success. This week we’re highlighting a few key resources for Missouri parents who make child support payments.
In the Kansas City area, we partner with the Family Support Division of the MO Department of Social Services. Their website provides ways to:
• Update your contact info with the Child Support program
• Make payments and access payment information
• Request a payment modification
• How to ask the court to temporarily lift a driver license suspension related to child support
You’ll also find information about a relatively new service called Pay Near Me that lets you make cash payments toward your child support order at locations like CVS, Casey’s General Store, Seven Eleven and Family Dollar.
A representative from the Family Support Division has started leading informational sessions about child support for our participants and offers one-on-one follow up sessions as needed. He emphasizes the value of staying connected with the Child Support office, not ignoring paperwork, and continuing to make consistent payments, even if you can’t pay the full amount. When life changes happen that impact your ability to make payments, the office can provide guidance on modification options.
Our team is also here to help you navigate challenges and create a bright future for your family. If you’re an alumni, reach out to your Life Transformation Coach or one of our offices. If you’re new to Connections to Success and want to learn more about our Personal and Professional Development Trainings, fill out the form below.
Additional resources: A number of states have adopted policies to help non-custodial parents reduce the amount they owe in child support arrears/debt. In partnership with Good+Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Ascend initiative published a fact sheet highlighting such policies.
