Personal connection to mission inspires local barber to give free cuts

They’re working hard to create a better life for themselves and their families, and gaining employment is often the first step in that process. During the 60-hour training, participants work on common application elements like resumes and interviewing skills. To help participants feel even more confident on interviews, volunteer stylists help them select a free professional outfit from our clothing boutiques. We’re also fortunate to partner with incredible community members, like Jeron, who provide free hair cuts and styling services to PPD participants.

Jeron is a barbershop owner who has a personal connection to our mission. He’s the spouse of one of our staff members and was recently released from incarceration himself. He now provides free hair cuts to PPD participants and shared with us what motivates him to serve:

“Being incarcerated you go through a lot and are always perceived in a negative light. People are hesitant to lend a hand to you because of your past. When you’re released from prison your main focus is to get back on track. It’s a bumpy road without the proper support system. That’s why I chose to work with Connections to Success. They help men and women at face value and not for their past. When released from prison, we need help. We need help getting back on our feet, we need support. We need organizations like Connections. The hand of strangers with good intentions, with no strings attached. I feel as if I (a stranger) can help out of the kindness of my heart, why not help out. I would hope the individual I’m helping would be encouraged to want to do better and one day help someone else. Connections is a wonderful program to acclimate a person after release. Me giving back is personal. We need more programs like Connections to Success.”

We’re thankful for Jeron and the way he’s chosen to share his time and skill set to empower others!
